| My recipe for curing my cold/flu in addition to lots of rest and drinking a lot of juice, water and tea. |
Hi friends! I suppose there's no better time than now to update my blog as my sickness has taken over and I've been on bed rest for 3 days now. There's a flu-bug going around and I guess it was inevitable that it'd invade my air space at some point since my friends had it and then Dylan caught it over the weekend and must have given it to me. It's not the worst sickness I've ever had, but it's definitely annoying to deal with and I hate the forced lethargic routine that accompanies it.
On the upside, it's given me the rest that I've needed, albeit the horrible means of getting it and I felt like I was on the mend yesterday only to wake up today and feel more congested. On this evening's dessert menu at Café Vilay: Theraflu a la mode. Yuck!
Despite the current state of my health, the weather here in MN is finally changing and it seemed to synchronize with Daylight Savings. We had a high of 52º today and comparatively speaking, it is 59º in San Francisco so I'd say we're making great progress! Not to mention the nearby school's marching band came down my street today, which I feel is a sure sign Spring is just around the corner. I can't tell you how excited I am to rid myself of winter. Last year, winter didn't bother me so much because I arrived on Dec. 28th (missing 2 months of it) and we didn't have this insane amount of snow and cold like we did this year. Not to mention I was still re-acclimating to life back in MN and everything seemed quite novel and nostalgic. I do believe the trick of dealing with MN winters is to travel out of here somewhere warm and often! Which is something I didn't do this time around, instead I went somewhere a tad warmer (Park City, UT) but was equally unbearable due to the elevation.
I'm thankful that I currently work from home, so taking all this sick time doesn't make me feel guilty for using paid PTO days (corporate speak from my office days). I think it's awful when companies make their employees come in when they're still sick, therefore not only making others prone to getting sick, but prolonging someone's sickness. I do not miss corporate life whatsoever!
In between being sick, I've been working steadily on our big upcoming MN Premiere screening of Color Me Obsessed, a documentary about our hometown rock legends The Replacements. We're securing our venue as we speak and gathering our partners/sponsors. It's our biggest monthly screening to date, so we're working to make sure it's a big success for us. I would be very surprised if it didn't do well here, actually I'd be really weirded out if we didn't sell it out. In addition to that, we're still planning the festival in Duluth again -- lots to do and think about there as well. I can't believe it's that time again. Where is the time going?!

I'm hoping I'll get better in the next few days, or should I say I better be feeling well before Tuesday because I'm headed to Chicago and I can't be sick for this mini-vacation. I was spontaneously planning to head to SXSW this week, but it looks like this sickness may be a blessing in disguise. Every year, I tell myself that I should go to SXSW for the film and music portion. It'd be a good idea for work reasons and I should plan and organize early in order to go. But for the past two years, I've procrastinated and a month before it happens I'm scrambling to make it happen. I could have gone as I found a ride down there and a cheap place to stay, but I didn't have a badge (which is fine, too) and I'm honestly too old to be standing in lines. After doing the math, I decided that it wasn't worth my money and time so I bailed. I'm sure glad I did because I'm in no condition to be burning the candle from both ends.
Anyhow, I'll have another update for you after my Chicago trip. I'm headed there with Dylan for a few days to see Eli Paperboy Reed and some general relaxation/hang time in the Windy City!
