I've been lusting after all the cool modern terrariums I see in interior design mags and blogs for some time now (if you've read my blog from the beginning, you'll remember my first template was a simple photo of a terrarium) -- so I finally ran around town in search of the perfect glass vessel, moss, soil, plants, rocks and other fun items to create my very own.
Thankfully, I found a lot of it at my local thrift store and gardening center. There's a bit of craft to it (choosing the right mixture of plants, mixing soil moisture content with charcoal/water, obtaining horticultural fabric, moss, etc.) and I'm sure I'll only learn through trial and error if any plants die, but I couldn't be happier with my initial results!
Also, I've cleaned up my back porch and got a start to the urban garden oasis I'm envisioning there. So far, I'm growing watermelon, tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins and a mixture of herbs. I've never done this before, so I'm pretty excited to see what happens. It' was the best project to take on today as it's a perfect rainy Spring day today.
