Parade of Birds, Graphic Design and John Waters

Yesterday, I finally made my way back to the Walker to take in their new exhibits: The Parade: Nathalie Djurberg with music by Hans Berg, Absentee Landlord curated by John WatersGraphic Design: Now In Production and Baby Marx. I really enjoyed The Parade, but my favorite of the day was the new Graphic Design exhibit. Perhaps it's because I truly enjoy creating things from graphic design programs, but mainly because I'm a total design-addict (hello Target) and really appreciate the impact it makes on us (whether conscious or unconscious). It was a great interactive exhibit and we walked away with our own hole-punched text posters (see below). By the time we left the museum, the weather dropped by 10º so our walk-through of the sculpture garden was a short and brisk one.

Since we were in Uptown, I convinced Dylan to pop into the new Muddy Waters with me so I could get my bloody mary fix. Rachel and I were here a few months ago and discovered how delicious they were, so being the bloody mary connoisseur I am there was no doubt I'd return. Their secret weapon? Square One Organic Basil vodka with their own special tomato mix. They also have a great happy hour menu, which we caught the last 7 minutes of and ordered a margherita pizza to share. After that we decided to grab some drinks across the street at the VFW, a place I haven't gone into since I was underage with a fake ID. All I can say is: $10.75 for a pint of Grainbelt, a pint of Bell's and a very generous pour of Maker's on the rocks. What?! There were some REALLY drunk people there (both were cut off and it was only 8pm) and a very strange crowd, but on a Sunday - it's kind of the best answer to Uptown on a weekend. Karaoke started a few minutes after we got in and I was in a singing mood so out came "Faithfully" by Journey, "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac and "Sweet Thing" by Rufus & Chaka Khan. Everyone who sang that evening sang something low tempo, which was sort of nice for a Sunday evening so we dubbed it "mellow karaoke". We had a really nice bartender and chatted with some locals. All in all - a pretty great Sunday out, which if you know me well...I usually never leave the confines of my house (or my bed).

The cutest birdhouse ever!
