Gettin' Cozy With It

Beautiful Pickerel Lake, Richville, MN
A few days ago, I returned from a lake cabin that sits about 30 minutes away from Fergus Falls, MN in the tiny quaint town of Richville, MN (approximately 3.5 hours NW of the Twin Cities). Rachel and her mother were so graciously kind to let us retreat there for some rest and relaxation. The cabin is nestled right on Pickerel Lake and we spent every night by the fireplace either watching old 80's movies on VHS or playing board games (which one in particular was straight from the 80's as well) and grilling out on the patio while watching the sun set on the lake.

The weather turned a bit cold on us, but we did get in a few days of perfect sunny Fall days. We didn't get to see any spectacular fall color as most of the trees that far north had already turned in early September and have now shed their leaves. However, we did get around to a lot of the nearby towns to explore an old mill, traipse through local antique shops (one of which was a complete gold mine of space age era to 70's gems), bought some fishing poles with live bait (and did some illegal fishing) and also visited the 9000+ acre area Maplewood State Park. We managed to spot some white-tailed deer and spied a bald eagle from a distance.

A view of the cabin from the lakeside deck.
An early morning view of the lake outside from bed.
It's amazing how fast time flies when you're doing nothing! We slept in every day (well, I tried to anyway) and I started and finished a great work of fantasy fiction called The Magicians -- a great vacation read for dorks like me who desperately wants to believe that the worlds C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien or even J.K. Rowlings invented are perhaps real.

Anyhow, it was the perfect little get-away I needed and I've just purchased my ticket to the East Coast this week and leave in 2.5 weeks -- I can't wait to be in NYC again. I'm taking the train to visit my good friend Jesse in DC as well and then it's off to see the family for Thanksgiving! I love this time of year!

P.S. I actually forgot my beloved digital camera, but took all of these photos with my phone camera! Not bad eh?

The "V" Prospect House...you knew I had to.

Looking mighty Midwestern here!
