FINALLY...we made our way to a lake this weekend, situated in a regional park a mere 45 minutes away near Rosemount, MN called Lebanon Hills. Not only did we not have to buy fishing gear (they rent them out for free), but the cost of a canoe was only $8/hour and bait was $4.00! Whoopee!
The best part for me was that it was a completely impromptu trip/idea. We were lazing about on a Sunday afternoon and decided on the fly to check it out. Although we knew rain was in the forecast, we went for it anyway and honestly...sitting on a lake in a canoe with fishing gear made for the best afternoon I've had in awhile. It was a warm and mild Summer rain with no lightning, just a few rumbles of thunder, so nothing to really worry about. Besides...for me to be sitting in a canoe, splashing my feet around in a lake while fishing is something I most likely won't be doing as often as I'd like. So you can imagine I was having the best time ever! I think Dylan was a bit weirded out at how pleased as a pea I was although I was being soaked by the rain...ha ha!
You can take the girl out of Minnesota, but you can't take the Minnesota out of the girl!
Upon heading out of the house, there wasn't a storm cloud in sight.
Clever use of the rooftop at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center.
One of Dylan's favorite little flowers.
A rec employee getting our canoe ready for us.
A most excellent Huck Finn pose by Dylan (see the storm clouds behind).
I'm the first to catch a fish (I believe this is a bullhead/catfish).
Yes...it is a tiny little guy...but still so fun to catch/release.
Dylan is soaked from rain and catches a Sunfish.
Officially..."gone fishin".
And of course, you know me, I couldn't resist to make a little film:
