My mother and me - check out those cheeks!
My older sister Orathay asked me to scan and post these photos of us on Facebook, so I figured I'd post them here, too. The photos of my family dating that far back are very few -- the one shown here is the only photo of me as a baby in Thailand at a refugee camp. So, you can imagine it's incredibly special and means a great deal to me. It's definitely one of those things I'd grab first if the house were on fire.
When I look at these photos, it always makes me imagine what my life would be like had my parents not brought us here to America. It's something I do not take for granted and deeply appreciate the effort it must have taken on my parents behalf to leave not only their own families, but their own country behind. For them to do this in order for us to live a better life is such a selfless and courageous act. I can proudly say that I do feel I am living proof of the "American Dream" and officially became a U.S. Citizen in 2008.
Check out my dad (right) as a rickshaw driver in Bangkok!
