Last night, I attended a sneak peek fashion invite-only event at the Vision Models loft in downtown Minneapolis, which is owned by two dear friends of mine. They were the first agency here that primarily focused on signing and casting models of color and also adding unique, hip and cutting-edge talent to their roster. A decade later, they are still going strong and are still (in my humble opinion) the BEST talent agency here in the Twin Cities. I am proud to say I was a Vision model and even cooler, was given the opportunity to direct the agency back in 2005. Vision rocks!Anyhow, I was there not only to support my old agency and friends, but also to show my support to local fashion designers and to Voltage, an annual fashion + music event that opens up MN Fashion Week now in it's 6th year. This was a press + buyers preview event to showcase the following 10 designers that will be a part of this year's event in April: Raul Osorio, Frances Zerr, Kelson by Brianne Jones, Elena Mercurio, Danielle Everine, Carmichael Claith, George Moskal, Kevin Kramp, PFT Couture and Emma Berg (my personal favorite from last night). Project Runway participant Christopher Straub showed some of the new purses in his line of accessories and FOX 9's Robyne Robinson showed her ROX jewelry line.
I'll admit, I am a bit jaded when it comes to fashion in Minnesota...but after being gone and returning 8 years later, it has really made a difference in terms of what the fashion scene is like here. I'm happy to see that an organization such as MNFashion exists and plays a crucial role in bringing together local fashionistas. It's also great to see that there are some really talented designers coming out of here. All in all, it was just great to be in the company of locals who love fashion as much as I do. It's nice there's a burgeoning fashion scene here for me so I can wear all those dresses in my closet!
After meeting some new people and visiting with the old, we ended the night by seeing my uber talented musician friend, Joe Hastings (Guitarzan, The Fuck Knights), play at Lee's Liquor Lounge in his newer act as Hastings 3000. It's a one-man-band and he's an all-around wonderful dude. Much love to you, Joe! As you can imagine, I woke up this morning a bit foggy, but that didn't stop me from writing course proposals and formatting budget worksheets in Excel. Rock!
